As some of you who know me, my previous life revolved around nothing but Porsche. From winning my classes at Pebble Beach, the Porsche Parade, Amelia Island, and everything in between to facilitating the sale of models like 550 Spyders, 959s, and Club Sports, etc. As I write this today, I have since “retired” from that lifestyle some 6 years ago but every once in a while I still get a phone call that a car I sold way back when is looking for a new home. This 911SC Cabriolet is one of those cars.
I remember this car well. In 2014, I got a phone call from a gentleman named Scott who lived in Oregon. Scott was ready to part ways with his ~20k mile ’83 911SC Cabriolet, a car he had purchased brand new three decades prior. The rarity of this model was apparent from the beginning, but it became even more intriguing when he revealed the color—Ruby Red Metallic, a color I have never seen on the 911SC Cabriolet. The car ticked all the boxes: a single owner, completely original, part of the first-year production for a convertible 911, and a uniquely rare specification.
After striking a deal with Scott, I faced a dilemma. While this Porsche would have been a great addition to my inventory, I felt a personal connection and decided to keep it for myself—a sentiment not uncommon in my line of work. I promptly arranged for the car to be meticulously perfected by my good friends at Chris’s German Garage in Seattle, Washington, investing $6k before having it sent to my shop in Raleigh.
I drove the car here and there for over 6 months until a good friend walked in the door and insisted on becoming its next owner, it has been in his care ever since. After almost a decade of ownership and over $20k in receipts, it is now ready for its next chapter.
