story and history

We are pleased to offer this rare 1994 Ferrari 512TR presented in Giallo Modena over black leather. This is just one of less than 30 examples believed to be delivered to the US market in 1994. These rarely ever come up for sale and makes the ‘94 US specs the most desirable year to have by Ferrari enthusiasts.

512TRs, in general, are a major upgrade in all aspects from the original Testarossa, both in period for performance and today for collectability. In ‘91, Ferrari began the transition from the Testarossa to the 512TR. The 512TR was a re-engineered and upgraded version of the Testarossa. Virtually every component that Testarossa owners complained about was addressed in this new variant. The engine was changed from the Bosch CIS to Motronic adding enlarged valves and increased compression ratio. A new engineered exhaust system added 50hp with a broader power curve which created a dramatically more response and a noticeably better exhaust note. Weight distribution was improved by moving the engine forward and down on the chassis giving it better handling. The suspension was updated, the steering ratio was quickened, bigger wheels, lower-profile tires, and the brakes were fitted with cross-drilled rotors. All of these upgrades made the 512TR a much better driving experience over the Testarossa.

The 512TR production only lasted 3 years from 1991 to 1994 and roughly 2,261 were produced.  Research shows that only 408 of the 2,261  were delivered to North America.

512TR North American Market (US & Canada)

* Model Year 1992: approx. 240 cars

* Model Year 1993: approx. 110 cars

* Model Year 1994: approx. 58 cars

Not only was ‘94 the lowest production year of any Ferrari in the past 30 years but Ferrari also incorporated an upgraded differential and made the anti-lock brake system standard for ‘94 only, making it most the most desired by Ferrari collectors today.

Chassis #97259 has a build date of May 1993 and was bought new in April of 1995 at Shelton Sports Cars in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It remained in Southern Florida with only 2 owners from new until 2021. Now it resides in North Carolina. Chassis #97259 currently shows 23,089 miles and has a clean Carfax. Cosmetically, it is in superb condition. The paint is excellent with very minor marks. All panels are consistent and show no indication of previous paint or bodywork. The wheels are in great shape with a few minor scrapes on the left rear wheel. No curb rash is present. The interior is equally as nice as the exterior. The leather seats are in remarkable condition and only show very little wear on the driver’s seat. The full leather dash is near perfect and has no evidence of sun fading. The motorized seatbelts work flawlessly and all electronics including A/C are in working order. Mechanically, it just had a major engine-out service at 20,527 miles and the engine and transaxle are clean and dry on top and below. The gated shifts are crisp and make and fill you with nostalgia with every shift. The car is accompanied by its original books, luggage, Schedoni tool kit, and Agip tire inflator.

This car has been extremely well maintained throughout its years and will continue to be one of the most sought-after Red Heads on the market.
