I have been apart of this 1972 911Ts life since 2004. I bought it from a broker who had just acquired it from its original owner, Ken Merkle. Ken had ordered it from Wood Imports in Detroit, Michigan after his 912 was stolen one night. The memory of a previous car’s disappearance can make it harder to enjoy its replacement and is exactly what happened to Ken. Between 1972 and 1975 Ken drove the “replacement” almost 20,000 before it went into a long “winter slumber”.
In 2004, the car had only 35,000 miles which made it quite apparent Ken didn’t have much motivation to drive it after 1975. Averaging just 500 miles a year for the past 29 years. The original paint was still in pristine condition and the original interior only showed minor wear. Due to the low mileage and its age, it was due for a major service just for my peace of mind. I pulled the engine and performed a re-seal as well as a chain tensioners update. I then held on to it for the next 7 years till 2011 when my good friend, Gary, pried it loose from me.
